What is SNOTW?

Scientific Nature of the Whammy is a sanctuary where I nurture my spirit by letting out the words that fill me every day. It's a place that allows me to remember who I am and share it with the world through all life's ups and downs. As a mother, I nurture my children every day. I write to explore my moments of happiness, heartache and hope. I blog to share those moments with others, then gain the privilege of experiencing the same moments from other people whose blogs I love. This is where I nurture myself and build connections and community that lift me up and make living life a joy.

Who is Rachael?

My name is Rachael Heiner, and I was born in November, 1980 in Pennsylvania - a piece of my heart still lives in Philly.

I met my husband, Justin, when we were both 19, and we were married three years later. As of January 2013 we are separated and the future is a little unclear.

In May 2006 we were blessed with the birth of Sam, our son. He is the blondest blondie in blondetown and we love him to pieces.  He is currently finding out all about the real world in Kindergarten and kind of obsessed with all things Mario.

In May of 2010, only 8 days after Sam turned 4 we welcomed our second son, Danny, into the family.  He's gotten blonder with time, so now I have a matching set.

I've been a writer for as long as I can remember.  As a little girl, I wrote stories and then continued to start a journal when I was in 5th grade.  I have written articles, papers, short stories, poetry and journals over the years, and now I'm here in the virtual world.  I do some freelance ghostwriting online, and though it's currently on hold until we get used to being a family of four, I can't wait to do more someday soon.

I went to school at the University of Washington and earned my degree in Business Administration in 2001. I had the privilege of being a stay at home mom for over six year and started work full time as an administrative assistant/office manager in October 2012.  That was a big year for me, with many adventures!  I traveled to Texas to get my certification and now teach Birth Boot Camp Childbirth classes.  I started a local resource and birth story website called Born in Bellingham, and in December 2012 started writing movie reviews for Your Movie Madness, a Facebook page that will soon be turned into an entertainment website.

We live in Bellingham, WA, which is about an hour and a half north of Seattle. It's a college town, not too big, not too small. I love the creative atmosphere and find that I have been writing a lot more since we moved back, as well as reading more books. There are tons of places to go walking and lots of parks to play in.  If you're visiting Bellingham, you should definitely check out Boulevard Park, Village Books, Fairhaven Toy Garden, Bayou on Bay, La Fiamma, and Mallards.
